Is All Smoke Damage the Same?

There Are Different Types of Smoke
There are two different types of smoke, wet and dry. This means that there are different types of soot and residue after a fire. Even though there are only 2 types, the combinations and effects are numerous. When we visit you after a smoke, soot, or fire cleanup, SERVPRO of Woodland Hills will investigate to determine which type of smoke damage occurred. The cleaning procedures will be based on the information identified during pretesting. We will then know how to proceed.
Wet Smoke – (Plastic and Rubber) Smoke webs are more difficult to clean.
- Low heat
- smoldering
- pungent odor
- sticky or smearing
Dry Smoke – (Paper and Wood)
- Fast burning, spreads quickly
- high temperatures that demolish everything
- heat rises, therefore, smoke rises
Protein Fire Residue – (Produced by evaporation of materials)
- Virtually invisible
- discolors paints and varnishes
- extreme pungent odor
Since every smoke and fire damage is a little different, each requires a solution tailored to the conditions. SERVPRO of Woodland Hills has the expertise and experience to restore your fire, soot, and smoke damage.
