Here’s what SERVPRO of Woodland Hills recommends in a water damage situation:
- Stop the water source! Main water shut off valves need to be turned off.
- Place buckets or pans if need be to capture as much water as possible before it has time to spread.
- Notify your insurance company, owner, Property Management etc. of the situation so they can make their own assessment.
- Call a plumber out for repairs.
- Once the water stops dripping it is SERVPRO assessment time. Our technicians using their moisture meters and infrared cameras mark the path of the water with blue tape. (This gives us a visual on the extent of damage)
- Demo: All that is physically damaged beyond repair is removed along with wet insulation. Flooring such as carpet lifted and carpet padding removed to allow carpet to reach drying standards. Carpet padding can retain moisture and typically doesn’t dry. Wood flooring may require a floor drying system or removal.
- Set drying EQ: Air Movers and dehumidifiers are placed to start the drying process. As we know too well in this industry, sitting water turns to mold within 24-72 hours without air flow.
- Day 3 Re-Assessment: By day 3-5 we have a good idea if materials are going to dry in place or not. This is our drying goal.
- Drying complete. Now that everything is dry we are ready to repair the loss to its original condition.
Water Mitigation usually 3 days because we act quickly. That is why you shouldn’t wait to call us. Don’t ever assume an area is dry by look or touch. When you assume, water will spread and your initial loss area, can double in size. This will elongate your drying time frame and make it more likely you’ll need costly demo and repairs.
So the next time you find yourself in a Water DISASTER, CALL SERVPRO of Woodland Hills 818-882-4556
