Water Damage to Wood Flooring

When a water loss in your home happens your flooring can get wet and hold moisture. Water damage that has to be cleaned can cause you floor to need to be repaired or even replaced. The following are a couple steps that can help you understand what will have to be done to get your floor to preloss state, if possible.
Flooring contactors try to discourage home owners from getting hard wood flooring installed in places of the home that are more humid like the bathroom, laundry room or basement. This is because when a large amount of water is present or high humidity it may cause the wood to expand, warp crackle and start to separate.
In engineered flooring the attached underlayment is made to expand and contract when it comes in contact with normal humidity changes. This helps not damage the solid wood layer on top. However many flooring contactors will decide that engineered wood flooring is not a good choice in humid and wet areas. In these areas vinyl, concrete or tile is recommended.
